Just thought I'd make a space to talk about any video games I've been into. Currently loving my modded 3DS!

I’ve been playing a good amount of Pokemon Ranger! I like it so far. It’s a weird challenge and a different take on the Pokemon world, but it’s kind of refreshing. It kind of answers some questions about the practical applications of the Pokemon and how normal people live in that world, which is interesting! I like the idea that these are people who want to live harmoniously with nature and want to help ensure that harmony. I like the idea that trainers aren’t common in their region, that adds much more of an interesting element that offsets the same-ness you usually get in regards to the Pokemon games. The gameplay is actually kinda challenging for me lol because you have to be pretty fast, which I wasn’t expecting. I’m glad I’m giving this game a shot, so far I recommend it.

Contains spoilers for today's Nintendo Direct
Wooo a gaming blog! And a Nintendo direct! I think I have less to say about it then most people. It’s got some stuff that seems nice, but I still don’t really want a Switch 2. But here’s some things that caught my eye a bit.

Yeah, so, maybe “caught my eye” might be a stretch for this, but this did look kinda weird lol. I guess we’re just going to put 2 parts Minecraft, 1 part New Horizons, and 1 part Pokemon in a blander and see if people buy it, huh? The thing is, if it weren’t for the blocky Minecraft look (sorry I never really was into that game like the rest of the world lol) I might be a bit more interested, but that’s really only by the merit of assuming the game itself would be very polished. The cozy game landscape right now is just getting kinda low-effort and same-y, it’s like the taco bell menu with the same ingredients in a slightly new format each time. I just don’t think it’s going to work unless you make it with a high enough quality or you add something new to make it fresh. That being said, I really need to give Tomodachi Life, because the new one looks great! I love the use of realistic JPEGs thrown in to look weird, it adds a certain humor that I think could work pretty well. To be honest, humor is something that could really save cozy games from their fate of everyone getting bored and uninterested in anything new. I should probably mention that Stardew Valley on the Switch 2 will probably also be welcome, but it’s more like a nice update so I think my point about cozy game going through a bit of a lag right now still stands. I really hope that changes soon. You can tell the games that started development during the ACNH boom are nearly all released, which hopefully means we’ll see more games that aren’t rushed (imo the look and feel needs to be WAY more of a focus since gameplay probably won’t be reinventing the wheel or be so extensive that it makes up for any lackluster visuals), and more games that are made due to genuine confidence in the core concepts instead of trying to hit the cozy game gold rush. Truthfully, I think indie games have a chance to really dominate in this field, because bold and groundbreaking visual styles seem to be more common with them and the work into making repetitive gameplay that people sink hundreds of hours into is more about refining your work and thinking about the actual process of playing the game (aka, your perspective as a fan has the most merit) than adding more and more elements to the game itself before release day.
edit: I should have mentioned the bizzare implications of Ditto turning into a human...

Also there was that one crafting Minecrafty game that also was announced in the direct, but I’m sorry….the faces look weird and uncanny. Already I’m turned off by the gameplay, so while I think the environments actually look really pretty in a lot of the shots, I’m just not close to sold. I think for a certain type of gamer, this is going to be a great game for them. Good for them, I guess!

Okay, so here’s the other game I wanted to talk about. I think this remake looks pretty damn good! I’ve played Dragon Quest and I really like it, but I need to give the OG one of this a try now for sure. It’s an older JRPG, and I’m a big old bitter feminist, so I can’t help but notice these two female characters are basically just the sexy lady/girl next door type women which does make me a bit worried that’s the whole spread of female character types you get in this game. Sorry to kill the vibe, but welcome to my blog lol, sometimes I notice the patterns. I don’t think it will stop me from playing or anything, but I do hope that’s not going to be the case. Anyway, I think this is Switch 2 only, so I might not play this game for like, many years anyway.

I’m sure it’s a bit of a bore for some people, but I like the reliability in Dragon Quest in regards to it’s gameplay. I haven’t seen much variation in the combat system from what I see in other installments (though I’ve only played 4 on the DS the internet seems to back me up on this). I like this! I think it’s great to be able to pick up any installment and get rolling without a hitch, so I’m excited to give more games in the series a try in the future and one day this one will be a part of that. My husband actually hates turn based combat lol, but he only plays like...3 games anyway. Okay maybe 4. All from his childhood lol. Mario Kart, Super Mario, Clock Tower, and Resident Evil games. Speaking of...
Past Dragon Quest, I’m good on this run of vidya lol. Which isn’t to say games like Hades and it’s sequel aren’t on my list to check out, just not on Switch. The final announcement(one of them), despite not being my taste really at all, was still impressive to watch. If I’m looking at that right, the game is being made for the Switch 2? That’s actually kinda big if true, just like the only Resident Evil I played as a kid, on the Gamecube. Big day for the men in my house lmfao. But as a future person on the couch next to the person playing this game, it looks like an interesting story enough, so I’m down for it. Also, honorable mention goes to that Mortal Kombat interactive documentary. I have no idea what that is, but that sounds cool! It may actually be annoying and gimmicky, but I play Nintendo games, so baby I live by that sword. Guess we’ll see, right?
It’s kinda funny this direct happened when I’m not playing any games like at all. I usually am, I just got busy with reading and watching shows and other stuff. Also I’ve been sleeping a lot, I slept about 10 hours a couple days ago and today I slept 11 hours. I don’t know why, it could be anything. But anyway, I hope you, dear reader, are doing okay. What are your thoughts about this direct or just whatever? You can still email me, or you can leave a comment in my guestbook. Smell ya later!

So, is it just me who still plays Webfishing?

I guess in a way, it’s my digital fidget cube. I’m going back and forth taking random breaks here and there to fish and then I’m back to whatever I was doing. It’s not a bad way to keep me awake, while still taking a moment to just….idk, zen out. I guess that’s like real fishing. I’ve heard there’s a lot of people messing around with hacking people’s accounts and stuff like that, so I’ve stopped making and going to private servers, but I really would love to get into the social part of it again...I barely got time to when I first got the game. I’ve always been awful at talking to people in games and stuff but I would love to give it more of a try and maybe improve. For now, all that’s improving is my fishing skill lol, and it’s a sloooowww go. This game was not made with any impatience in mind, which is probably good.
Hm, my mind has been a bit of a mess lately, and I’ve been struggling to communicate with people even though it seems like this week quite a few people are reaching out to hang out with me….man, I hate turning those requests down, I’m worried I won’t get these chances again. I just can’t even spare gas money right now to travel around, so I have to wait until money is not so tight. How lame of me! I hope in the future, I can have a game of Webfishing where a bunch of people can just hang out and have a good time together. I love being a hostess, I just struggle at being a conversation partner right now. Byebye!

Ohhh my god how badly I want to play Animal Crossing Deluxe....so that's what I'm going to figure out how to do. Tonight, after typing this lol.
Wouldn't it be cool if we could visit each other online through it? I hope I don't need my physical copy and my Wii for it, even though I have those things I don't wanna fish all that out and have to learn how to mod my Wii to play it lol.
Also I watched a video about Super Mario RPG that just kinda sold it to me? I'll have to figure that one out, too.
I saw the Pokemon Direct, it was just okay.
Of course the cute parts are really cute but man, a bunch of app games and another instance of Pokemon ignoring increasingly common complaints about their mainline games. I just don't know if I'm ever going to be a "modern" Pokemon fan, which I feel just sorta bad because I know this is just such a cliche take to have. I really do try with the newer stuff, I love to gamble on Sword's Wonder Trade and there are new NPC characters that keep getting introduced that I usually really like (I'm very partial to most Pokemon human designs lol), but this isn't going to have me coming back to play the newest game I have vs Old Reliable for the hundreth time lol. Also it's just frustrating to see fans ask time and time again for the same stuff, sometimes rather normal things too, and not a single thing close gets implemented, and the game sells a bunch of copies and makes a bunch of money. I mean, why would the cycle end at this point? I think there's an effort to add such things in app games instead, like voice acting, to just kinda shut people up. I also just kinda have accepted that Pokemon is for kids, which is obvious, but it also means adult fans won't have a say, and are considered the minority at best of the entire demographic. So basically, I just try to chill out and not care about anything new. But sometimes I do hold out for things like remakes or the Virtual Console popping up because I am still shocked they don't put any mainline on that. I'm incredibly fond of some of the amazing things that happen within Pokemon fans online, because so many people do what they can to keep being a retro fan vibrant and fresh. I love seeing what the handheld retro console and modded console community are able to do and how it really elevates older Pokemon games, and honestly I've had the time to also appreciate the different eras in detail while I've learned I switch from wanting a 3DS-era seamless QOL glide through an adventure to a GB-era nostalgic and classic grind pretty often. I'll admit retro has the advantage with more in stock to choose from. I know nostalgic plays a huge part, but also not entirely, some of my "old" DS games are actually when I fell off for the games for a little while. I do regret not being there for the debut of Sun and Moon, because those games are outstanding to me. I think there's a lot about that era that I was shocked didn't stick or get built upon. Anyway, as far as nostalgia goes I know I still got it like crazy, honestly don't all retro Pokemon fans?

Been playing mostly Fantasy Life, Sudoku, and Sanrio Picross lately. I guess you could also count Gaia games if you want, but I'm mostly playing pinball there lol. In Fantasy Life, I'm an alchemist, and even though I'm over 20 hours in, I'm trying to see if I can master alchemy first before trying a new life in it. Is that even possible? The game is really charming and I enjoy the grind, but I totally see why that wouldn't sell the game to someone.
